Fix Your Posture in 90 Seconds with This Quick Drill
Do you have that "hunched over" posture? Shoulders rolled forward and upper back rounded? This happens when your chest muscles get too tight and your back muscles get too weak. To fix it, you need to "activate your postural muscles."
Luckily, Coach Tyler is here to give you a simple drill you can do in "just ninety seconds" to fire up those postural muscles. Most people when they experience bad posture are just told to stretch, but that often makes it worse. The real solution is "creating a connection with these muscles and activating these muscles so they pull the shoulder blades back and down into the right position."
There are 3 levels to this activate-your-posture drill:
Beginner:
Stand and grip a towel wider than hip-width. "Press the towel overhead and try to reach it as far behind us as possible." Feel the muscles between your shoulders working. Bring it down to your chest, squeezing your shoulder blades. Go up and down slowly, pulling the towel apart the whole time.
Intermediate:
Stand with a towel and hinge forward at your hips. Go through the same overhead press motion, trying to lock your elbows at the top. Really squeeze your shoulder blades as you bring the towel to your chest.
Advanced:
Lie face down and lift into a prone position. Raise the towel overhead, straightening your arms fully, then lower it to your chest while pulling elbows back.
You should aim to do this at your appropriate level for 90 seconds daily for a few weeks. You'll "activate your postural muscles and improve your posture significantly making your body feel better." Give it a try!
