Quick Fix for Forward Head Posture
If your head tends to drift forward, this quick drill can help bring your neck back into a better position fast. It takes about 30 seconds and can be done anywhere.
Why Your Head Drifts Forward
Forward head posture often shows up from long hours of looking down at a phone, working on a laptop, or sitting with rounded shoulders. This drill helps retrain the neck to sit taller and more stacked over your shoulders.
What you will do
You will slide the head back, then gently move the head up and down while keeping that “pulled back” position.
The 30-Second Forward Head Posture Drill
Step 1: Chin tuck
Slide your head straight back like you are making a double chin
Keep your chest up and stay upright
Do not arch your lower back to fake the movement
Step 2: Look up slightly
Keep the head pulled back
Lift your face toward the sky
Hold for 2 to 3 seconds
Step 3: Look down slightly
Still keep the head pulled back
Bring your face down toward the ground
Hold for 2 to 3 seconds
Step 4: Repeat
Go back and forth between “look up” and “look down” about five times
Total time is around 30 seconds
Key form cues
Head moves back first, then the up and down happens from that position
Stay tall through the spine
Keep the movement gentle and controlled
When to Use It
This works best when you do it multiple times a day, especially:
After working at a desk
After scrolling on your phone
Any time your neck feels tight or your posture starts to slump
Conclusion
This drill is quick, simple, and effective because it teaches your head to sit back where it belongs, without forcing your neck or over-arching your back. Do it for 30 seconds, then pause and notice how your neck and head position feel. If you repeat it consistently, your posture will start to improve more naturally throughout the day.
